PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Squirrels are found on every continent except Australia and Antarctica. They are skilled climbers, but come to the ground to eat and hide food like nuts, acorns, berries, and flowers. Squirrels build nests called dreys to use as a home base, survive winter, and care for their young. Both male and female squirrels build dreys and they can build up to four or five dreys per year. In this activity, students will go outside to see if they can find any squirrel dreys in the trees, and then use items they find on their walk to craft their own squirrel drey for the remainder of class. 60 min | Ages 4-10
